Klaar (heyklaar.nl), the personal assistant on WhatsApp. Last updated 5 October 2026 (receipts and location added).
What we store and why
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your WhatsApp number | To talk to you and to know who you are. |
| Household size, allergies, diet, budget, postcode, language | To only suggest food that fits. Allergies are health data: we use them only to filter suggestions, and only after you agreed. |
| Our chat (your messages and Klaar's replies) and what you chose | So Klaar understands follow-ups and remembers what you like. |
| Your tastes: cuisines you love, foods you never want, weekday cooking time | To plan meals that suit you. You tell us when you plan your first week. |
| A few short notes Klaar keeps (max 8), e.g. "busy on Wednesdays" | So Klaar gets to know you over time. Never about health, religion, money or allergies. Ask "what do you know about me?" to see them, "forget …" to drop one. |
| What's at home (pantry), for 7 days | To use up what you have and shorten your shopping list. You confirm the list first. |
| When you usually message (only if you turned nudges on) | To send a nudge around your usual mealtimes. |
| Waitlist: name, phone number, email | To invite you when it's your turn. |
| Subscription status (if you subscribe) | To know whether you have access. Card and bank details stay with Stripe; we never see them. |
Shared location: we turn it into your 4-digit postcode and keep only that, never the location itself. Receipt photos: an AI model reads the product names, you confirm them, and the photo is deleted straight away (also at Twilio). We keep the product names, not prices or the photo.
The legal basis is your consent (given in WhatsApp when you reply YES, or on the waitlist form) and, for a subscription, our agreement with you.
Who helps us
These services process data on our behalf, only for the purpose listed:
| Service | What for | What they get |
|---|---|---|
| Twilio and Meta (WhatsApp) | Sending and receiving WhatsApp messages | Your number and messages |
| Railway | Hosting our app and database | Everything we store |
| Nebius AI | Understanding your messages, writing replies, reading receipt photos | Your message, your food preferences and recent chat (without names of shops or prices), and receipt photos you send |
| Google Maps (Places) | Finding restaurants near you | Your postcode area and what you're looking for, not your number |
| PDOK (Dutch government) | Turning a postcode into a location, and a shared location into a postcode | The 4-digit postcode, or the shared location (not your number) |
| Stripe | Subscription payments | Your payment details and a reference to your account |
Some of these companies are based outside the EU. Where data leaves the EU, they use the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long we keep it
As long as you use Klaar. Send DELETE and we erase your profile, chat history, nudges and waitlist entry at once, and cancel an active subscription. Stripe keeps payment records it is legally required to keep.
Your rights
You can see, correct or delete your data, object to its use, or ask for a copy. In WhatsApp: profile shows what we store, reset changes it, stop ends nudges, DELETE erases everything. For anything else, email [email protected]. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.
- Klaar never orders or pays for anything on your behalf.
- We don't send you messages you didn't ask for: nudges are off unless you turn them on.
